PN AZIMAH ABDUL GHAPAR

Each person must have their own favorite teacher. Just as I do. At Uniten I have my own favorite lecturer and her name is Azimah Bt. Abdul Ghapar. I'm very pleased with the way she teach in classroom or lab. In Uniten she teaches several subjects for System and Networking course such as Principles of C Programming, Computer Organization, Operating System and so on and so forth. For me, she was a good and talented lecturer since she taught at Uniten from 2000 untill now. From my experience learnt with her, she will come to each student to ask if the students understand or not with what  she taught. If the student does not understand about a topic, she will explain to the students several times until the students really understand about the topic. That is why I really like her.

My Favourite Lecturer

This is my favourite lecturer Mr. Lim Kok Cheng, he is a graduate of Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak. The courses he taught in UNITEN are Web Programming, Programming 1, Programming 2 and Software Testing. He also have a lot of publications and a research about "A Comparative Study of GUI and TUI for Computer Aided Learning Courseware". He is from the Department of Software Engineering of College of Information Technology (UNITEN) . He is a very humble, friendly and jovial person. He helps and assist student doubts in studies until the students understand and clear.

Lecturer: Mr Uwe Heinz Rudi Dippel

Mr Uwe Heinz Rudi Dippel is System Administrator's lecturer. He's a Germans. He taught me System Administration on semester 1. Althought he is strict but he really care about his fellow students.

If you enter his class after ten minutes, he will take your id and mark late on your name at the attendance. He is a very helpful lecturer. if you don't understand, he would not mind repeating himself.

Besides that, Mr Uwe is a very environmental friendly person. He cycle everyday to COIT and then keep his bicycle inside.

However, now Mr Uwe is no longer in Uniten. I wish he had a better life out there.

Lecturer: Mr Ng Yu Jin

Mr Ng Yu Jin *

Bright personality. Energetic. Confident. Yes, that's how I describe my English lecturer who taught me for only about two months. During that 2-month duration, to me, he is a unique human being who thinks out of the box and has vision beyond borders. What I admire most about him is that he is always prepared to face unexpected situations. 

Frankly speaking, my first impression of him is not positive. I saw him as an incredibly strict lecturer. But as time goes by, my impression towards him changed. Mr Yu Jin has a powerful aura that attracts students to attend his classes. To my surprise, yes, his English class was always full with students. If you are in his class, there would always be interesting activities going on. He would make each of his students participate in class activities.

He has the ability to convince people to believe in whatever he is doing. For example, this blog. He encouraged us to write any articles about UNITEN to improvise UNITEN's current website which is not attractive and out of trend. Amazingly, all of my classmates are currently putting their efforts on blogging in order to promote UNITEN using their own creative ways. This is a good start to UNITEN to produce more capable students in future.

Although he is no longer teaching us, as he has other responsibilities that are urgently important, in the duration of two months, he has taught us to be confident in what we're doing, be committed and never procrastinate. Mr Ng Yu Jin is a good example to look at. I would like to say thank you for teaching me many good values and I wish him good luck in his future endeavors!

UNITEN'S PRODUCT


The Invention and New Product Exposition (INPEX 2010) held recently in June 2010 awarded UNITEN's lecturer, Dr Rohayu Che Omar the Special Category Award - Best Innovator Cup for her invention entitled "Innovative Monitoring & Maintenance Rating System" (IMRS).

Asked to describe her project, Dr Rohayu said it was the outcome of a team effort. This project focuses on development of mobile PDA application designed especially for onsite data collection to cater needs of quick information transfer system by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) who owns major part of electrical supply chains in Malaysia. TNB has chains of transmission lines across jungles and ranges, rural town area and major parts of cities in Malaysia. Each year, number of cases including landslides, erosions and structural failure lead to huge lost in money, time and precious forest.

This system will enable a better data handling and processing during regular inspection interval thus optimizing time taken to rate and recommends immediate mitigation steps. With this automation in onsite survey system, recording critical data and alerting maintenance team could be done in real time and with minimal human error factors. This system is also linked to GIS software which enables a broader capability for landslide and factor of safety modelling and assessments of prone area.  

Earlier this year, Dr Rohayu was also awarded the Gold Medal at the Taiwan Invention Product Promotion Association (TIPPA) for similar invention.

Accommodation: Cendikiawan Apartment

Cendikiawan Apartment

Cendikiawan Apartment is one out of four students' apartments which is located in Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Putrajaya Campus. It is an all male apartment which consist of two eight-story buildings. Inside each house, there are four single bedrooms, two wash rooms and a spacious living hall.

Cendikiawan Apartment, also known as Cendi by many, is a comfortable place for students to live at. It has a very nice environment. It has facilities that satisfy students' needs such as laundry, water dispenser and also a 24-hour convenience store. There is also a huge parking space available for the students' vehicles.

Should students encounter any problems, they can always visit Cendi's Accommodation Office to make reports or complains. The officers are very friendly and helpful. However, they are only available during office hours.

Among the four students' apartments that are available in UNITEN, I would say Cendi has the most strategic location. Why? Cendi is located in between College of Information & Technology (COIT) and Dewan Seri Saujana (DSS). Students living in Cendi who have classes in COIT can just walk to COIT without having troubles to wait for shuttle bus. Cendi is just less than 5 minutes walking distance to COIT. The path that connects Cendi with COIT is covered by greenery so students need not to worry about the hot weather in Malaysia as there are shady trees along the path to COIT.

Besides COIT, Cendi is also near to DSS. It is only few steps away from DSS. At DSS, students can find facilities such as a gymnasium, badminton courts and a cafeteria. Behind DSS, there are tennis courts and a basketball court. While next to DSS, there is a huge swimming pool and a mini stadium.

To sum things up, if I were a male student, I would definitely choose Cendikiawan Apartment as it is located at a very strategic place inside UNITEN campus and has many facilities for my convenience.

Uniten Accomodation for students

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

As usual all university should provide their accomodation. The accommodation is also play role for student who that cares with place that they need to stay for a long time period of study at the university. Besides that, student's family also take serious about where their daughter or son will stay and the convenience for their children to stay at our university.

UNITEN have four accommodations for student:-

            Male accommodation apartment

Amanah Apartment

Amanah is located quite far from College of Engineering (COE) but much nearer to College of Information Technology (COIT). The location won't be much a problem because UNITEN provide public transportation, shuttle bus in the campus for student's convenience. It is a twin sharing type of accommodation. In one house which is fully furnished, there are two rooms with two single beds and two table study, one bathroom, living room and a kitchen. It also provide parking lots for students who drive their own cars.

Besides that, there are two badminton court so this is a golden chance for those who like to play badminton to maintain their life healthy and harmony. The apartment is fully under secured and surveiliance where outsiders cannot enter the apartment without sticker or pass, this can ensure the safety of people living here without any theft happen.

Accomodation: Kelompok Ilmu

Kelompok ilmu is one of girls apartment in Uniten. It consist of six block. But currently, there are two block fill with boys  ❂.❂

Kelompok Ilmu is totally different from Kelompok Murni. Murni is the single type room while Kelompok Ilmu is the sharing type. Houses in Kelompok Ilmu consist of two rooms and each room consist of two people.

As for me, I love Kelompok Ilmu more than Kelompok Murni since living alone in a spacious room is not fun. Besides, Ilmu is near to upten. Therefore, students that live here would never starve. (✿◠‿◠)

Kitchen

Kelompok Ilmu located in the middle of coe and coit. College of engineering is just a walking distance from Kelompok Ilmu. 


However, the rent per month is RM200 per person which make one house equivalent too RM800 per month. We had to pay for our own electric too  (╥﹏╥)

Gymnasium

The Gymnasium is located in Dewan Sri Sarjana (DSS) building,near to swimming pool,badminton court and so on. The fees per entry for students is RM1.00 whereas for the staffs is RM1.50. It is cheaper if we differenciate with other gym outside there which cost a lot. Moreover there are trained professionals around to assist you with a proper instruction or help with problems or injury. The gym is fully air-conditioned where you can get fresh air while workout in the gym. They have many specialized equipment to get a better outcome which precise the muscles.

This is the schedule for the usage of gym according gender.

UNITEN Shuttle Bus Service

Myself in front of UNITEN bus

Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) provides students with a free fare shuttle bus service within UNITEN campus. It operates on weekdays from 7am until 10.30pm. The shuttle bus service provides an easy way for students, staff and even visitors to access the UNITEN campus with no fares charged to any passenger. However, this service will only pick up and drop passenger at appointed places.

UNITEN shuttle bus service has two routes which are Route A and Route B that are convenient and carefully planned to satisfy students' needs. 

The stops for Route A are as follow:

ATM Machine -> COE -> Ilmu -> Gate 2 -> DSS -> Amanah -> COIT -> Murni -> Administration -> ATM Machine

The stops for Route B are as follow:
ATM Machine -> Murni -> COIT -> Amanah -> DSS -> Gate 2 -> Ilmu -> COE -> ATM Machine

Based on my experience, UNITEN shuttle bus is almost all the time punctual. It provides comfortable journey as all the buses are fully air conditioned. The safety provided by UNITEN shuttle bus service is guaranteed as all the buses undergo full inspections frequently. Besides, the bus drivers are very friendly which makes the communication between bus drivers and passengers easier and more comfortable.

Recently, I discovered one of the UNITEN buses which is powered by bio-diesel. This is a good start to UNITEN in order to save energy and even money. This could also increase UNITEN's reputation as one of prestigious university in Malaysia for going green!

             In early mosque establishment UNITEN it placed under administration Canselori. Then established a special unit that describe as Unit Pentadbiran Agama (UPA) to operate affairs about Islamic Religion in UNITEN.

            On15th of june 2005, Jemaah Pengurusan UNITEN upgraded Unit Pentadbiran Agama to Pusat Islamic Uniten. This establishment of centre is combination between Unit Pentadbiran Agama and Unit Islamic Studies (academic).

                   Once again on 1 September 2007, Pusat Islamic Uniten have changed in accordance with development UNITEN itself in pursuit their vision and mission. Pusat Islamic UNITEN moved name to Islamic Studies Centre and Peradaban UNITEN (Center for Islamic Studies and Civilization UNITEN).

Facilities: Swimming Pool

Uniten's swimming pool open everyday except Saturday. Girls turn is on Tuesday evening and night. The rest of the time is boys turn. While Sunday, the swimming pool is open for boys and girls. It is quite unfair that guys get the most time in the schedule  ͼ(ݓ_ݓ)ͽ

The swimming pool will be a bit crowded on Sunday.  Boys definitely love to go swimming on Sunday if you know what I mean ◔◡◔

The swimming pool are open not only to student but also to lecturers, staff and outsiders. The entrance fees for students is only RM1 on evening session and RM2 on night session. Swimmers are required to wear swimming cap. If you did not own one, you can rent it with RM0.50.

The swimming pool located near to Dewan Sri Sarjana (DSS) and Stadium. It also quite close to student's apartment, Cendikiawan. The strategic location makes the swimming pool as the uniten student's favorite place to relax after some stressful day with classes, test and assignment.
