UNITEN has been awarded as the recipient of the Best Performing Organizations in the World in Education for the World Class Award (Highest) category on 18-20 September 2010 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The award was given during the 16th APQO/ International Conference on Quality. As the winner and award recipient, UNITEN was invited to present a paper on its adopted best practices.
The International Asia Pacific Quality Award (IAPQA) is administered by the Asia Pacific Quality Organization (APQO). APQO is a non-profit organization that serves as an umbrella group that brings together all of the leading quality professional societies from countries that border on the Pacific Ocean or are considered Asian / Pacific Rim nations. The governing body of APQO includes representatives from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. The award is sponsored by a foundation established by APQO called The Walter L. Hurd Foundation. Management direction for the award is provided by the International Asia Pacific Quality Award Executive Committee.
Four organizations from Asia and the Pacific Rim are being recognized as exemplary companies of world class quality performance. They have achieved the International Asia Pacific Quality Award modeled after the U.S. Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Award", said Charles Aubrey, Chairman of APQO and the International Asia Pacific Quality Award Executive Committee.
The journey of success in quality for UNITEN started since 2008 when UNITEN was given the certification for Quality Environment (QE) for both campuses and later progressed to win the National QE Award for the Open Category: Service Sector. At the same time, UNITEN continued to expand its certification scope ISO9001:2008 covering both the support service and academic sectors. This achievement led on to the participation in the Quality Management Excellence Award (QMEA) and was awarded the Certificate of Excellence.
In order to be more holistic in providing education services, UNITEN embarked on MS1900:2005 certification which covers the Shariah Perspective of teaching & learning, research and development as well as the support services for both campuses.
